A qu...My focus has been on patents and human milk. A quick search turned up an article entitled, "Scientists Attempt to Patent 'Designer Sperm.' University of Pennsylvania scientists were trying to patent a process that genetically altered sperm. This was filed in 1991.<br />http://www.genticandsociety.org/article.php?id=131<br />The cloning of Dolly,a sheep with the use of a mammary cell and not sperm was a breakthrough in our understanding. Scientists don't need sperm to create life in the laboratory. <br />They maybe doing alot of patenting on sperm but I leave that to others to investigate. <br />What impacts society with the patenting of human milk components or human milk itself, is that we have a billion dollar industry (the infant formula industry) that has a major interest in this patenting.Valerie W.
